Story Times

Start your little one on the path to school success. Our story times encourage socialization, build early literacy skills, and provide tools you can use at home to help kids learn, play, and grow. Listen to stories, recite rhymes, sing songs, dance, and enjoy other movement activities together. It's also a great way to meet other families and make lifelong friends.

Story time is divided into age groups from birth to kindergarten. This allows our professional librarians to provide developmentally appropriate materials while engaging little ones with age-appropriate activities.

Helpful Hints to Make Story Time Successful:

  • Most story times take place in the story time room inside the DuBois Children's Reading Room. Some story times take place in the 2nd floor meeting room.
  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes early as each story time is carefully designed to provide a routine and familiar structure.
  • Help us keep the library's spaces clean. Food is not permitted in story time. Drinks must be covered or have a lid.
  • We do not recommend toys in story time, as it can be distracting to other children.
  • Encourage your child to participate. Regular attendance will help them feel more comfortable.
  • Parent participation is important to build literacy skills. Model appropriate listening behaviors for your child.
  • Refrain from socializing or using cell phones during story time.
  • Exit the room if your child becomes unsettled or distressed. You are welcome to return at any time.
  • Stay after story time to socialize with other families in the Children's Department.
