Fall Story Times

Registration for the following Story Times is required & begins on Saturday, August 30th. Patrons may register in person or by telephone. Each session is limited to 20 registrations.

Baby Time   

For children ages 6 - 24 months with a favorite adult.   

Wednesdays

Toddler Tales           

For 2 & 3 year-old children with a favorite adult.

Wednesdays

Preschool Place  

For 4 & 5 year-old children.

The following Drop-In Story Times do not require registration. Patrons may drop-in anytime!

Music Together       

All ages are invited to Mr. Jim for music & stories.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Night Owls               

Children ages 2 & up and their families are invited to wear their pajamas to this special evening story time.

Join us for stories, activities, snacks and fun each week.
Program will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Story Time room on the following Tuesdays:

PAWS TO READ

Sign-up to practice your read aloud skills by reading to a registered therapy dog, Cayenne.  15-minute time slots are available from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. on the following Saturdays:

November 1
December 6

For students of all ages and reading levels. 

Registration is required & begins one week in advance of each program.

Fun Fridays
Relax at the library on Friday afternoons and participate in a variety of activities just for you and your friends. This program will meet at 4:00 p.m. on the following Fridays in the Children’s Room:

September 6 Chocolate Craze
October 24 Dem Bones
November 14 Candy Corn

For students in grades 3, 4 & 5.

SEPTEMBER

Guess the Number of M&M’s Contest

Visit the Children’s Room now through September 27th to guess the number of M&M’s in our display case. If you guess the correct number you’ll win a tasty treat to share with your whole family! One entry per child please. Pick up an entry form at the Children’s Desk.

Corduroy’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, September 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Children’s Room

Drop in anytime to celebrate Don Freeman’s famous picture book character, Corduroy! Bring you teddy bear, decorate a cupcake, color a picture, play a button toss game and enter to win your very own Corduroy bear to take home! All ages are welcome to attend.

OCTOBER

The Akron Zoo presents: Where in the World

Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room

Kids are invited to explore the different places animals call home, from the desert to the rainforest, when the ZooMobile visits the library. Don’t miss your chance to meet a few zoo animals!

Free tickets are required and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Monday, October 6th in the Children’s Room.

Haunted Gingerbread Houses

Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room

Families are invited to work together to create a spook-tacular haunted house masterpiece out of graham crackers and other delicious goodies.

Registration is required for this fun event and begins one week in advance on Saturday, October 18th.

The Ultimate Pop Culture Quiz

During the month of October students in grades 5 & up can test their knowledge of current events in the entertainment industry. Get all the answers right and you could win 2 movie passes to the University Plaza Movie Theater! Find the quiz in the Children’s Room or by the booth in the Teen section and return it to the Children’s Room desk by October 31st to be eligible. Good Luck!

NOVEMBER

Lego Contest

Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room

For students in grades K – 5 with an adult. Kids can build an original Lego design for display. Friends and family are invited to vote for their favorite creations. Contest rules and guidelines are available upon registration in the Children’s Room. Be creative!

Registration is required for builders and begins on Saturday, November 1st.

The Really Tough Movie Quiz

During the month of November students in grades 5 & up are invited to take our movie quiz for a chance to win 2 movie passes to the University Plaza Movie Theater. Find the quiz in the Children’s Room or by the booth in the Teen section and turn it in to the Children’s Room desk by November 29th to be eligible. Good Luck!

DECEMBER

Mock Caldecott Election

December 15th – 30th in the Children’s Room

Everyone is invited to cast a vote and let us know which book deserves to win the 2009 Caldecott Medal. The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. A special display of eligible picture books will be available in the Children’s Room for patrons to view.
