Introduction to Computers
Prerequisites:
None
Description:
Introduction to Computers is for those just starting to learn to use
a computer or those who aren’t sure yet if the computer is for
them. Attendees will learn some of the terminology and what they
can do on a computer once they’ve mastered the basics. Attendees
will actually get their hands on the computer as they learn to “mousercise”! |

Introduction to the
World Wide Web
Prerequisites:
Intro to Computers or understanding of Windows and ability to use the
mouse
Description:
For anyone who’s ever been told “you can find that on our website,” and
not known how to do that, this class will show them how! Attendees will
hear a brief history of the rise of the Web and an overview of who’s
using it today and how. Then the class will cover how to go to websites
and navigate them. Finally, attendees will learn how to find
information using portals. (Internet Explorer is the browser). |

Basic
Web Searching
Prerequisites:
Intro to the WWW or experience using the WWW
Description:
There’s lots of information on the Web; but sometimes finding it can be
difficult! In this class, attendees will learn how to use Google, the
premier web search engine, to search the Web effectively and find what
they want. The class also covers who authors websites and how to tell
an authoritative website from one that maybe isn’t totally accurate.

Setting up a Free
E-Mail Account
Prerequisites:
Intro to the WWW or experience using the WWW.
Description:
Sending e-mail is easy, and is not only a great way to stay connected
with friends and family, it’s a way to get updates and reminders from
utilities and businesses—even the Kent Free Library! During this class,
attendees learn how
to set up a free e-mail account. Google’s e-mail
service. The class also covers e-mail etiquette, spam, and how to avoid
e-mail scams. |

Basic Microsoft
Word
Prerequisites:
Intro to Computers or understanding of Windows and ability to use the
mouse.
Description:
During this class, attendees create, format, and save a short letter in
Microsoft Word. Attendees will also learn how to use the convenient
Kent Free Library computer lab for working on and printing word
processing documents. |

To Register:
Registration for classes begins on the first of the month preceding the
class. Stop by or call the reference desk at 330.673.4414. Attendees
are taken on a first come, first serve basis, and seats are limited to
ten (10) per class. A waiting list will be available for classes that
are filled; those on the waiting list will be called the day before if a
seat opens up. |
